Sound Rivers Board
Steve Anderson
Steve Anderson is both an ecologist and a musician, and currently serves as a wetland scientist with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s ecosystems branch in Division of Water Resources’ water science section. Prior to that, Steve was program coordinator for the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership in eastern North Carolina and Virginia, and a researcher for Duke and N.C. State universities studying how contaminants, fire, flooding and saltwater impact water quality and plant health in forests, wetlands and streams throughout the state.
Steve, his partner and their two children call the Upper Neuse home — living, working and playing there.
“I first heard about Sound Rivers while working in the Ellerbe and Goose Creek watersheds of the Upper Neuse river,” Steve said. “I have admired Sound Rivers’ inspiring and influential work all throughout the state ever since. I seek every opportunity to engage and support communities in the just stewardship of the land and water who sustains us.”
