Sound Rivers Board

A math professor at the Havelock Campus of Craven Community College and a retired Marine, Mike Sagaser brings a lifelong commitment to service and a deep love for eastern North Carolina’s waterways to his role on the board of Sound Rivers.  Mike was first introduced to the organization’s work by former Neuse River Foundation President and fellow avid kayaker Jake Jacobson.  Their shared time on the water — and Jake’s passion for conservation made the importance of Sound Rivers’ mission immediately clear to him.

There at the launch of the Swim Guide program, Mike has volunteered as a Swim Guide water sampler since, gaining firsthand experience in monitoring the health of local rivers and understanding the ongoing need for vigilance and advocacy.  He also regularly participates in river cleanups and trash-removal efforts, work that has further strengthened his connection to the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico watersheds.

Deeply committed to the mission of Sound Rivers, Mike views board service as a meaningful way to protect and preserve the waterways he has grown to love.  He is dedicated to ensuring these vital natural resources remain healthy, vibrant and accessible for generations to come.
