Due to winter weather, this event has been rescheduled to March 4!
Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop is issuing an invitation to New Bern residents to weigh in on the city’s land-use ordinance, the Re-New Bern initiative.

“The Land Use Ordinance governs where and how the city develops, which has far-reaching impacts for our waterways and our communities,” Samantha said. “The city has an opportunity to pass an LUO that prioritizes walkable neighborhoods, promotes flood resilience, and protects water quality, but it is up to us to ensure that the city’s new plan has a vision for growth that prioritizes protection of the natural and cultural resources that New Bern values most.”
Samantha will be hosting a workshop at Craven Community College from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on March 4.
“This community meeting is meant to bring together interested individuals and community leaders who can share their interests, hopes and concerns about growth and land use in New Bern,” Samantha said. “We hope to learn from locals and share what Sound Rivers knows about impacts of local land-use decisions on our waterways. Working together to engage in the LUO process, we want to push for environmental and community protections in the city’s new guiding land-use policy document.”
The meeting will be held in the Naumann Community Room, in Ward Hall, at Craven Community College. Visitor parking is right by the entrance to the building in Lot 2 (see map below).
