(This event was updated on Feb. 18 to reflect rescheduled date)

On Tuesday, March 4, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sound Rivers is hosting a community meeting on the subject of land use in the city of New Bern, at Craven Community College, Naumann Community Room, in Ward Hall. Visitor parking is right by the entrance to the building in Lot 2 (see map below).

The Re-New Bern initiative is the city’s process of updating the local Land Use Ordinance (LUO), which governs where and how the city grows and develops. This document has far reaching impacts for our communities and the environment, which is why Sound Rivers is hosting a community meeting to bring together interested individuals and community leaders who can share their interests, hopes and concerns about growth and land use in New Bern.

During the Feb. 20 event, we hope to learn from locals and share what Sound Rivers — your local water-quality watchdog organization — knows about impacts of local land use decisions on our waterways. Working together to engage in the LUO process, we hope to push for environmental and community protections in the city’s new guiding land use policy document.
