Description

Tar River, Washington vicinity — The Cypress Hideaway Platform is located about 5 miles upstream of the City of Washington.  The platform is tucked away in a floodplain forest, just a few miles upstream from the confluences of Tranters Creek and Bear Creek with the Tar River. The Cypress Hideaway offers lovers of the “lowlands” some of the best wetland floodplain scenery that the lower Tar River has to offer. Nestled under towering cypress trees, this remote platform offers a not-to-be missed experience in nature. Keep your eyes to the sky for the pair of nesting eagles that can be seen in the area.

The closest upstream put-in is at the Davenport Farm near Pactolus (pay ramp), and the closest downstream takeout is either the Wildlife Resources Commission boat ramp at Mason’s Landing on Tranters Creek or downtown Washington.
