Piedmont to Pamlico challenge: $1 per mile
Events, Tar-Pamlico Watershed, Water Trail
Posted on October 2nd, 2025
Your Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper is taking to the Tar on an epic adventure and a dollar a mile will help her get there!
All dollars donated will be used to replenish Sound Rivers’ Water Quality Fund, which is at low tide right now.
The Water Quality Fund, established in the fall of 2020 in memory of Eugene Pate, has had an enormous positive impact on Sound Rivers’ work to monitor the Tar-Pamlico and Neuse watersheds for water quality and investigate results to find sources of pollution. The fund is used to pay for expensive water-quality testing, aerial monitoring flights, field and lab sampling supplies so that your Riverkeepers can track pollution sources and ensure the problem is solved.
Due to the large number of investigations in the past year (and there have been A LOT!) the fund balance has been drawn down.
Enter the Piedmont to Pamlico Paddle!
You can help Sound Rivers replenish the Water Quality Fund by sponsoring the Piedmont to Pamlico Paddle!
Oct. 13-25, Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman, Water Quality Specialist Taylor Register and Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz will be kayaking 175 miles down the Tar-Pamlico River from Oxford to Washington, and you can sponsor these intrepid explorers for a dollar a mile.
Sponsor all 175 miles for one of the paddlers with a $175 donation!
Donate $88 to sponsor half a trip!
Or $44 to boost them a quarter of the way!
(If you’d like to donate for any other number of miles, simply select the “Other” option on our special donation page, and make sure you write “Piedmont to Pamlico” in the comments section at the bottom of the form!)
For your sponsorship, you’ll get a “shout out” from Katey, Taylor and Emily via social media and in our weekly eNews. And, by donating to Sound Rivers’ Water Quality Fund, you’ll be ensuring the Riverkeeping team can continue to monitor the waterways you care about! The more we raise, the more they can accomplish.
Don’t wait! The Piedmont to Pamlico launch date is in TWO WEEKS! DONATE TODAY!
