Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz talks trash (pickup) with Girl Scouts from Troop 4533.
Sound Rivers Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz and Executive Director Heather Deck met up with Girl Scout Troop 4533 Wednesday evening to give Jack’s Creek a litter-free makeover.
Emily said this group of girls meant (cleanup) business.
“As they were getting dropped off, the girls were jumping out of the car with gloves on and trash bags in hand, and before I could even talk about what we were doing, they were finding trash in the parking lot,” Emily said. “They were on a mission!”

The group not only tackled the Jack’s Creek tributary’s trash trap, but scattered along the banks of the creek, and even in the creek, to pick up litter.
“They were so enthusiastic and fearless, ready to throw on the waders and jump right into the creek,” Emily said. “By the end of the cleanup, some were brainstorming new ways to design trash traps and how to prevent litter from ending up in the creeks.”
One particular bit of excitement was coming across a goose on her nest.
“We quickly learned to give the goose some space,” Emily laughed.

A total of 60.72 pounds of trash were removed from the trash trap, the creek and its banks.
“These Girl Scouts made this cleanup a party, and I am so thankful for all their hard work,” Emily said.
