Join Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop for this kayaking cleanup on the Neuse between Covered Bridge Road and Castleberry Road!
The Friends of Johnston County Parks is hosting its first Neuse River cleanup in honor of National River Cleanup Day. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Friends group is partnering with Neuse Adventures, a local river guide company in Clayton, and Sound Rivers for the event.
Meet up at East Clayton Elementary School; volunteers will be transported to a private launch. Registration is required to participate. SIGN UP HERE!
On the form, you can select if you need a vessel or if you would like to bring one for yourself (please let us know ahead of time for transporting upriver on a trailer). We do have a limit of 13 vessels for rent (at no charge) from Neuse Adventure (first-come, first-served); vessels include tandem kayaks and canoes. Friends' board members will be leading the cleanup effort and will be guiding participants down the river. Bags, gloves, and both life and safety vests may be provided at each location as available, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if they have them. In addition, participants should consider bringing water, snacks, bug spray and sunscreen.
