Your donations to Sound Rivers support our work to protect and preserve the beauty and health of the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico rivers and provide critical funding for programs like Swim Guide (keeping you in the know about your water quality), advocacy (working with North Carolina leaders to create stronger protections for your clean water), environmental programs (implementing innovating solutions to pollution and increasing public access to your rivers), and more.

Our summer membership drive is back!

From now until Aug. 31, if you start a new annual membership of $125+ a year or become a sustaining donor at $15 or more a month, you’ll get a chance to win a river cruise with your Riverkeeper!

Another option is to start a new membership at $500+ annually or $50+ a month as a sustaining donor, and you’ll be entered into a drawing for TWO OYSTER ROAST VIP TICKETS!

Names will be picked from a hat at Sound Rivers’ in-person board meeting in September.

You can become a member at any level, however, and now is a great time to do so. Why? Because Oyster Roast tickets go on sale in September and the first week of sales is limited to Sound Rivers’ members only — and last year, tickets sold out in SIX DAYS!

Do you have a Donor Advised Fund from Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or BNY Mellon Charitable Gift Fund? You can use the form below to make a grant directly to Sound Rivers!

And anyone with a Donor Advised Fund can participate in the #HalfMyDAF Challenge, where charities you grant to are eligible for matching funds if you pledge to spend half your DAF by June 28! More info on that program here.

If you are 70 ½ or older and have an IRA, making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to Sound Rivers is a tax-smart way to make a donation. The QCD allows you to direct IRA distributions – up to $108,000 per year – to qualified 501(c)3 charitable organizations like Sound Rivers. Because the IRA income goes directly to charity, you do not report the distribution as income and do not pay any taxes on the QCD. This may be beneficial if you must take required minimum distributions (RMDs), but don’t require the additional money. In addition to avoiding taxable income, your distribution will support Sound Rivers’ critical work to protect the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico rivers.
