Planned Giving

Sunset on the Pamlico River near Bath, North Carolina.

Thanks to many generous members and supporters who care about our waterways, Sound Rivers has advocated for fishable, swimmable and drinkable waters of the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico rivers for more than four decades. Sound Rivers is the only nonprofit organization that is solely focused on ensuring that our rivers remain vibrant, clean and healthy resources for our communities well into the future.

You can have a lasting impact on the waterways you love by naming Sound Rivers in your will or estate plan. Many of our members have chosen to add Sound Rivers in their planned giving and no matter the size of the gift, your bequest will help ensure your rivers are protected for generations to come.

However you choose to support Sound Rivers, please know you have our deepest gratitude and appreciation for your dedication to clean water.

Bequests

One simple way to support our efforts is to name Sound Rivers in your will by specifying a designated dollar amount or percentage of your estate. You can also choose to name Sound Rivers as a remainder beneficiary to receive funds only after specific sums have been paid to individuals, such as your loved ones.

Making a bequest can be very straightforward. Let your advisor know your wishes, and they will put the appropriate language in your will.

Sample bequest language: I give, devise, and bequeath to Sound Rivers, Inc. a nonprofit corporation, 108 Gladden St., Washington, North Carolina (Federal Tax ID Number 58-1475258) all (or state a sum or a percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal.

Other planned-giving options:

  • speak with your attorney about Charitable Remainder Trusts or Charitable Lead Trusts;
  • donate a fully paid life insurance policy you no longer need or list Sound Rivers as the beneficiary;
  • make Sound Rivers the beneficiary of your IRA, 401k, Donor Advised Fund or pension.
