Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz mans the Sound Rivers table at the New Bern Newcomers Nonprofit and Club Fair.
Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz was in New Bern greeting recent arrivals in New Bern at the New Bern Newcomers Nonprofit and Club Fair last Thursday night.
Held at the Harrison Center, the event introduces folks new to the area to the many clubs, organizations and nonprofits in New Bern.
“We have presented at the New Bern Newcomers monthly meetings a few different times now,” Emily said. “These events are open to anyone new to the area, or who just wants to get involved.”
The fair had a large turnout, and Emily said she was surprised by the number of people who made a point of coming over to the Sound Rivers table to say hello and learn more about Sound Rivers’ work.
“There were definitely some newcomers, but a good portion of the people who came up to the table were already familiar with our work — get our eNews, get our Swim Guide texts — and were eager to see what we had going on next,” she said.
Emily used the opportunity to highlight the upcoming Croatan Wetland Walk and simply introduce people to the Neuse River.
“It was really great to chat with the people who are new to the area and aren’t familiar with the Neuse River and what’s going on with water quality,” she said. “And it’s always nice to put a face to the work we’re doing to share that information — with all the data we’re putting out, it’s nice to see who’s receiving it.”
