Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz shared the Sound Rivers mission with avid anglers in her hometown of Oriental this week.

“It was so great to chat with the Fishing Club in Oriental,” Emily said. “Obviously, this town is near and dear to me, so it was so much fun hearing about their favorite fishing spots and what they’ve been seeing out on the water lately.”

Twenty club members attended the Tuesday night meeting, where Emily talked about challenges the Neuse watershed is currently facing and suggested ways they can help make a difference.

“Since the club members spend so much time on the water, they can be really helpful when it comes to spotting issues like fish kills and algal blooms, especially in the summer months,” Emily said. “They have firsthand knowledge of each winding creek, and it’s great to know they’re out there, keeping an eye on things.”

The Fishing Club’s regular meeting was held at Brantley’s Village Restaurant, a staple in the Oriental community.

“I really enjoyed presenting to this group — they asked a lot of really great questions,” Emily said.
