The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of New Bern has signed on as a Swim Guide sponsor.

Executive Director Heather Deck met up with longtime Sound Rivers volunteers Christina Marshen and Mike Sagaser last week to accept the sponsorship check of $500 from the church.

“We’re certainly grateful to Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for the donation and to Christina for orchestrating this,” Heather said. “Swim Guide is such an important program — because knowing your water quality is important — and we really couldn’t do it without our sponsors.”

Sponsorship came in an envelope adorably illustrated with Neuse River wildlife.

The sponsorship was given in honor of Jake Jacobson: “Jake was a longtime supporter of Sound Rivers’ mission, holding the title of past president of Sound Rivers’ board and of UUFNB. In addition to these positions that he held dear, Jake was an avid wildlife photographer and fought local battles to insure the wellbeing of our rivers. Water quality was of utmost importance to Jake for the flora, fauna, wildlife and his fellow human beings, and it is in his honor that we make this donation to the wellbeing of our waterways.”

Thank you, Christina, Mike and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of New Bern!
