We’re spotlighting our Swim Guide sites this summer, so you can get more info on the places we sample, and maybe find a new place to explore! Visit soundrivers.org/swimguide to learn more, or text “SWIM” to 33222 to get weekly water quality alerts straight to your phone!

Woodstock Point, Pungo River

Woodstock Point is one of the furthest Swim Guide sampling sites from our office in Washington, NC. Located on the Pungo River (part of the Pamlico), this site is sampled from a private residence. The Pungo River is a popular site for boating and fishing and so far this summer the site has failed 3 out of the total 11 E. coli tests. We recommend that if you are a consistent user of this area that you stay up to date with our sampling results each Friday via the Swim Guide website and our Facebook video updates. See more about this location on the main Swim Guide website here.  – Amelia

Trent Woods, Trent River

The Trent River is a popular recreation spot for residents and visitors to New Bern, Trent Woods, James City, Brices Creek, and other towns in Craven and Jones Counties. The water on the Trent can be calmer than the Neuse, making it ideal for paddling, boating, fishing, and swimming. While our Trent Woods sampling site doesn’t have public access, the samples at this site can give you a good idea of the water quality of the river in this area. Buffaloe Road Canoe Launch, Upper Neuse River

Located on the Neuse River, Buffaloe Road Canoe Launch has a small parking lot where bikers, joggers, tubers, and paddlers can easily access the Neuse River Trail and water. This site was monitored by several volunteers this season who have enjoyed seeing wildlife and fish inhabiting this site each week. Unfortunately, this summer Buffaloe Road Canoe Launch failed to meet the water quality requirements for E. coli levels 6 out of the 11 weeks we have sampled. Last summer, Buffaloe Road failed 9 out of the 13 Swim Guide weeks. We strongly encourage you to check the water quality status of this site each week before hopping in!
