We’re spotlighting our Swim Guide sites this summer, so you can get more info on the places we sample, and maybe find a new place to explore! Visit soundrivers.org/swimguide to learn more, or text “SWIM” to 33222 to get weekly water quality alerts straight to your phone!

Blounts Bay, Pamlico River

Blount’s Bay is located on the Pamlico River in Beaufort County, NC. This site is one of our sponsored sites this summer and it has been one of the few that has passed the E. coli test each week! Blount’s Bay is one of the lowest areas nearby so the site experiences lots of runoff and drainage into the Bay after rain events. If you’re looking to take a boat out and do some fishing, Blounts Bay looks like the place to be! – Amelia

River Bend, Lower Neuse River

The River Bend site is located in a residential community which offers a navigable canal to the Trent River. Golfing, fishing, hiking, and biking are among the main activities available in this area. You’ll find boat docks on many of the homes located in the River Bend neighborhood. River Bend is a quaint place and is currently monitored by local residents. – Cait

Milburnie Park Canoe Launch, Upper Neuse River

Located on Old Milburnie Road off of Route 64, Milburnie Park is a popular spot for visitors to enjoy the Neuse River Trail, launch kayaks, or go for a swim. We test at the Milburnie Park Canoe Launch which is found downstream of the dam and next to a bridge. Last summer, this site failed the water quality standards for E. coli levels 2 out of the 14 weeks. This Swim Guide season, Milburnie Park Canoe Launch failed 3 out of the 7 weeks we have been testing, so be sure to check the Sound Rivers website for weekly water quality updates before hopping in! – Nicole
