Swim Guide launches next week with 54 popular recreational sites tested on the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico!
Sound Rivers’ Neuse and Pamlico-Tar Riverkeepers work with interns and volunteers to monitor water-quality at popular recreational sites in the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico watersheds. During peak swim season, these sites are sampled weekly from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend. Sites are monitored for E. coli bacteria in freshwater and enterococci bacteria in brackish or salt water and are given pass/fail designations depending on whether they meet federal recreational water-quality standards.
Swim Guide ramps up next week, so make sure you’re checking for results on Sound Rivers’ social media, aired on Public Radio East and posted to the Swim Guide page here or you can sign up for our free text alerts – water-quality alerts that go straight to your phone! Text “SWIM” to 33222 to sign up! Results are shared on Friday afternoons after 4 p.m.
