Swim Guide fails prompt a closer look at Dinah’s Landing

Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman was on the water last week, investigating Swim Guide failures at a popular recreational site in Beaufort County: Dinah’s Landing.
“This Swim Guide site failed two times in a row prior to last week, and has now failed three times including last week’s results,” Katey said.
She collected more water samples, but the results were less than satisfying.

“I took an extra bacteria sample and a duplicate on Wednesday morning before the rain, and the results were right on the dividing line for enterococci, with one passing and one failing,” Katey said. “That was super-annoying.”
She said she’ll be paying close attention to this week’s Swim Guide results, and if it continues to fail, will be investigating potential pollution sources.
Dinah’s landing is located in Goose Creek State Park, east of Washington.
