Sound Rivers welcomes 2026 interns

Four interns joined the Sound Rivers ranks earlier this week, just in time for the launch of a ninth year of Swim Guide.
Corey Reaves, Brooke Kestler, Caroline DeGroodt and Hannah Gurganus will be coordinating the popular recreational water-quality program from Memorial Day until they head back to school in the fall. Volunteer Coordinator Emily Fritz said she has great expectations for this year’s crew.
“They are all so bright and eager to learn everything that they can about Sound Rivers and our Swim Guide program,” Emily said.
Hannah will be based out of the Washington office; Brooke will be working in New Bern; and Corey and Caroline will be manning the Raleigh office this summer.
In addition to Swim Guide, the interns will be assisting with the Riverkeeping team’s pollution investigations and Sound Rivers Litter-Free Rivers program.
“I’m just incredibly excited they’re joining our team this summer,” Emily said.
