Sound Rivers officially said goodbye to Sierra Stickney Digan last week.

Sierra joined the staff of Sound Rivers in September 2024 as the stormwater education coordinator, a position facilitated by Resilience Corps NC AmeriCorps, a service program of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, funded by a grant through the North Carolina Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism.

Sierra exceled in the position, making new contacts and bridging partnerships with schools across both watersheds, pitching in at events and trash-trap cleanouts and assisting Program Director Clay Barber with installation and maintenance of green stormwater infrastructure being built through Sound Rivers’ Campus Stormwater Program.

In May, when the Americorps program was defunded, Sound Rivers supporters pitched in to keep Sierra on staff (which we appreciated!), and with the cancellation of her Americorps contract, Sierra got a new job title: Sound Rivers’ program assistant.

With the end of her Sound Rivers tenure in sight, Sierra was hired as Pamlico County Soil & Water Conservation District’s natural resource conservationist. They are lucky to have her!

Sound Rivers’ staff thanks Sierra for her awesome work over the past year and wishes her the best in her new role!
