Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman and Andy Anderson chat about docking on the Washington waterfront.
Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop, Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman, Water Quality Specialist Taylor Register and Program Assistant Sierra Stickney Digan took Sound Rivers’ new Bay Rider for a spin on the Tar-Pamlico this week — and get some expert advice from longtime Sound Rivers’ supporter and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary officer Andy Anderson.
Anderson is a member of USCGA Flotilla 20-6, based in Washington.

Wednesday’s boat day started with a launch (or four) at Mason’s Landing on Tranters creek.
“We did some good overview of boat-safety training,” Katey said. “We all took turns driving the truck and backing the trailer down the boat ramp. The conditions were actually perfect for practicing getting the boat on and off the trailer — the current was strong going downstream, and the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, so it was challenging.”

Katey said it was great to get a chance to brush up on boating skills, especially now that Sound Rivers has a new boat to work with.
“Andy gave us all sorts of tips and tricks for the new boat,” she said.
Thank you, Andy, for sharing your wealth of boating knowledge with the Sound Rivers team!
