Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop shares Sound Rivers' mission with the crowd at Eno River Brewing.

Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop, Development Coordinator Jay Potter and several Sound Rivers board members were on hand in Hillsborough last Saturday, bringing the city’s Creek Week to a close at Eno River Brewing.

“It was a really great event, an all-ages crowd, from little kids to elderly folks, walking around,” Jay said. “For us, it’s an opportunity for exposure, especially in a part of the Neuse that we often don’t get to, and an opportunity to work with Hillsborough.”

Sound Rivers board President Catherine Kastleman, Treasurer/Secretary Trip Boyer and Vice President Shannon Ariata took the outreach seriously, mingling and engaging with the crowds.

“It was the very first thing that Catherine did when she walked up, she said, ‘Give me stickers,’ and went out into the crowd,” Jay said. “Most people left our table with one or more of our stickers in their hand.”

Samantha also took a turn at the microphone, introducing listeners to Sound Rivers and its mission to monitor and protect the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico watersheds.

Jay said Sound Rivers’ appearance at the Eno River Brewing Creek week finale was a success — and one the owners want to replicate.

“They want us come more than once a year and are open to creating a brew in our name (as a fundraiser), a give-back night or trivia night,” he said. “None of this is set in stone yet, but we’re all floating ideas around.”

Stay tuned for upcoming events with Eno River Brewing!
