PADDLE OUT: Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman teamed up with Aurora Mayor Curt Hendrix last Saturday for a group paddle celebrating National Canoe and Kayak Day. The weather held out as the group launched from the boat ramp on South Creek and paddled up Baileys Creek, getting background information about the area from the mayor and hearing about issues facing the waterways from Katey. One intrepid paddler had a close encounter with a creek-dweller, as a mullet jumped out of the water and into his lap. “He was an experienced paddler, so it didn’t faze him," Katey laughed. Pictured, Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman and Aurora Mayor Curt Hendrix celebrate a successful paddle.
