SCOUTING: Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman and water-quality intern Hannah Gurganus visited Camp Hardee in Blounts Creek last week to introduce Girl Scouts to Sound Rivers and water quality. They talked about Swim Guide and bacteria in the rivers, took turns collecting a water sample and got a peek at how processed samples full of bacteria glow in the dark under a blacklight. "Everyone thought that was really cool — even some of the parents and leaders came over to have a look," Katey said. Katey is pictured above, instructing the Girl Scout taking a water sample as other scouts look on.
