Tar River, Tarboro vicinity – The Wildlife Resources Commission Gamelands Platform is located two miles downstream from Riverfront Park in Tarboro. Situated on the north side of the river, this platform offers beautiful views as you leave the towns of Tarboro and historic Princeville. Through paddlers can enjoy a leisurely pace on their way to Old Sparta or on to Greenville. For day or overnight paddlers, the closest upstream put-in is Riverfront Park in Tarboro and the closest downstream takeout is the WRC boat access at Old Sparta, six miles downstream.

The river in this section begins to straighten, offering paddlers a view of up to a mile in some areas. At low-water levels, boats can be secured along a sandbar near the platform. You’ll find access steps up to the platform. Please use caution, as the steps can get slippery after high-river flows.
