Tar River, Tarboro vicinity — The River Farm Platform site is located in a sharp turn with a big sandbar just a few hundred yards upstream from the Bell’s Bridge Wildlife Resources Commission boat access. A few steps down a primitive walking trail, you will find this amazing camping site quietly nestled in the woods along the river. The river is amazingly deep along the outside bend in this section, perfect for a lazy summer swim. 

The WRC boat access at Dunbar is located 11 miles upstream, making this camping spot a perfect two-day adventure. You will truly find yourself immersed in nature in this section, with no bridges, very little development and numerous sandbars, where you can get out, stretch your legs and explore. If you have a watchful eye, look for embedded fossil scallop shells in the bank — a remnant of the ocean floor eons ago!
