Description
Tar River, Dunbar vicinity — This camping platform is located about 3 miles upstream of the Wildlife Resources Commission boat ramp at Dunbar, Edgecombe County, on one of the most scenic sections of the Tar River. This stretch of the river is in the upper reaches of the coastal plain, where rocky riverbed and boulders give way to sandy bottom. Enjoy a narrow, meandering section of the river just downstream from the platform with high banks and abundant wildlife such as whitetail deer, wild turkey, waterfowl and much more.Â
The most upstream public access point is located at the City of Rocky Mount kayak launch on N.C. Highway 97. There is an existing private boat ramp on the farm where you can exit the Tar River, right bank. The platform is approximately 50 yards downstream from the ramp.Â
