For a third year in a row, teachers Jessie Francese and Adrian Findly invited Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop to Exploris Middle School in Raleigh to talk about Sound Rivers’ work to protect the Neuse River basin. Samantha’s presentation on Wednesday was part of a unit of study the students are engaged in, focusing on watersheds and water-quality problems impacting rivers and communities. Samantha said the approximately 70 students were enthusiastic, curious and eager to help protect the Neuse River basin.

“My favorite part of our time together was seeing their reactions when I told them that I paddled for 11 days, over 150 miles, of the Neuse River. Telling young people that they can have incredible adventures on our waterways is one of the best parts about being a riverkeeper,” Samantha said.

(If you haven’t been able to spot her, Neuse Riverkeeper Samantha Krop is in the green shirt, on the second row from the front!)
