Volunteers Gather for New Bern River Cleanup

Posted on May 9th, 2019

By Katy Hunt, Lower Neuse Riverkeeper

Sound Rivers held our annual Spring Cleanup on May 4th at Lawson Park in New Bern. What started out as a gray and slightly dreary morning turned into a fun day on the water collecting trash!  It was nice to see old friends who have participated in every cleanup, as well as several new faces – including a dog named Hercules.

Our group was a little smaller than past events with 15 people, but they still managed to collect an impressive amount of garbage. There were the usual finds of plastic bottles, aluminum cans, styrofoam, and tires. This year we found an alternator, house siding, and industrial lubricant. A few more cleanups and we’ll be able to build our own car!

As always we are so thankful to our volunteers and all of our supporters.
