Stormwater Education Coordinator Sierra Stickney (Resilience Corps NC AmeriCorps member) had the pleasure of presenting Sound Rivers’ work to 36 members of the New Bern Garden Club this week.

Sierra met the group at the New Bern Golf and Country Club on Thursday, where they explored the benefits of rain gardens as green stormwater infrastructure, the vital role of wetlands and the advantages of using rainwater harvesting cisterns for thriving plants.

“I also discussed the new rainwater harvester and pump at West Craven High School and how rainwater can be used for the plants in the greenhouse,” Sierra said. “It was a delightful experience sharing these environmental topics with such an engaged group.”

A subject of discussion was how rainwater harvesting cisterns can be hooked up to water plants, as is the case in the West Craven High School greenhouse.

Resilience Corps NC AmeriCorps is a service program of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, funded by a grant through the North Carolina Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism.
