When it rains, it pours. And sometimes that means sediment pollution is pouring into your waterways. Last week, a Sound Rivers supporter witnessed this exact situation at the site of a new Wawa under construction on East 10th Street in Greenville.
“If you see something like this, where it’s clear something bad is entering a waterway or entering a waterway through a stormwater drain, take a photo, send it to us, and we’ll make sure the right people are informed of the issue,” said Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman.
In this case, though sediment and erosion control mechanisms are required, none appear to be in place. Katey reported the issue to North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Energy, Minerals and Land Resources.
