Sound Rivers and the Mid-East Commission are looking for feedback on what to do with water.
On May 21, they’re teaming up for an open house at the Washington Civic Center to present the ideas and projects they’ve determined could best help the Runyon Creek watershed — in terms of water quality, flooding and more.
For the past year, Sound Rivers has been working with the Mid-East Commission on a Runyon Creek 9-Element Watershed Restoration Plan to map out the watershed: its stormwater system, impervious surfaces, and how it floods, to determine what changes should be made or what projects implemented to better handle stormwater and improve water quality. Stormwater from nearly 13 square miles of land within and east of Washington drains into Runyon Creek, a tributary of the Pamlico River.
The project team will be at the open house to share information about the current status of Runyon Creek, share project concepts and information and seek feedback from community members. Sound Rivers will also have educational information for residents, homeowners and businesses on ways they can voluntarily protect water quality.
“We want people who live in the watershed to come out, people who visit it and people who care about the river, because that’s where all the water ends up anyway,” said Program Director Clay Barber.
The open house will be held at the Washington Civic Center, 110 Gladden St., Washington.
