CONSTRUCTION ALERT: A head’s up for Neuse paddlers in Wake County
Posted on October 15th, 2026
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority has sent out a notice that work on I- 540 project in Wake County could impact those paddling the Neuse River. From Oct. 12 to spring 2027, crews will be working in Wake County and are scheduled to install bridge elements for the future Triangle Expressway crossing over the Neuse River.
During active overhead construction, a portage detour will be in effect. When overhead construction is not taking place, river users will be able to continue paddling through the area. Signs will be located at the bridge site, as well as at nearby boating accesses.
