Sound Rivers and project partners (City of Havelock and University of North Carolina Institute of Marine Science) are seeking public input on a Slocum Creek Watershed Restoration Plan. This plan was funded by a North Carolina Land and Water Management Trust Fund grant.
A watershed improvement plan for the West Prong of Slocum Creek will outline water-quality challenges revealed by a year of sampling in Slocum Creek and highlight community’s uses of the creek, water-quality concerns and strategies to address these concerns. A watershed restoration plan opens the door to funding for water-quality improvement projects, which are critical to decreasing pollution. The West Prong of Slocum Creek watershed drains much of west Havelock and discharges to the Neuse River in Craven County — a waterway with a history of impairment due to elevated bacteria and nutrient levels.
If you live or recreate in these areas, please take a few minutes to complete this survey for the West Prong Slocum Creek Watershed Restoration Plan. Your input will help us better understand existing issues and needs in the watershed. Thanks for your time!
