On Saturday, July 23rd more than 100 people joined our Upper Neuse Riverkeeper and braved 100+ degree heat index to cleanup the Neuse River from Milburnie Dam to Anderson Point Park. Through the generous donation of canoes from Frog Hollow Outdoors and Paddle Creek, volunteers both young and old paddled this lovely stretch of the river just outside of Raleigh. Dedicated volunteers also walked the Neuse River Greenway to Anderson Point Park picking up numerous bags of trash from the river’s banks.
Volunteers cleaned up more than 60 bags of trash from the River and its banks. Some interesting things that were removed from the Neuse River included a mattress, the back half of a boat and a cash register (that was unfortunately empty).
“With many thanks to Sweetwater brewing company, Frog Hollow Outdoors, Paddle Creek, Sound Rivers, and all of our volunteers who braved the heat we were able to significantly clean the Neuse and raise funds for future projects to better this great fishery and waterway.” said Jake Thurmond Orvis Fishing Manager.
This year’s cleanup was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorships from The Orvis Company and SweetWater Brewing Company. Canoes were provided by Frog Hollow Outdoors and Paddle Creek NC and great food was served by Flirting with Fire and Chirba Chirba.
