Jillian Howell named new Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper

As some of you may know, current Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Forrest English has accepted a new position closer to his roots on the West Coast. While we are sad to lose Forrest, who has accomplished so much in his time with us, we are excited to announce that Jillian Howell will take over the position next week.

Jill, who was hired originally as our Environmental Projects Manager in June, will step into the role of Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper on August 12. It was clear even during her Project Manager interview process that Jill’s skills and interests were very aligned with a Riverkeeper position.

“I’m excited for this new role at Sound Rivers and eager to dive into all the issues affecting this watershed,” Jill said. “I can’t wait to learn from and work with communities on solutions to problems impacting them and our water.”

Jill has a B.A. in environmental studies and global studies from Colby College and graduated from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies in May 2019 with a Masters of Environmental Management.

We are excited to work towards a clean water future with Jill leading the charge on the Tar-Pamlico. Jill will be at upcoming events on the Tar-Pamlico, and she is resource for you!
