Join us for our next episode of Sound Rivers’ virtual science series, as Jess Hawkins discusses major water quality and fisheries issues of the Pamlico-Tar River. Jess grew up on the Pamlico and had a long career as a biologist, studying fisheries and environmental issues on the river from 1978 to 1996. He continued to deal with those issues as Assistant to the Director of North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries, developing statewide policy, and as a appointed member of the Marine Fisheries Commission.

Jess also served on the board of the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation for several years, and, now retired, continues to engage in policy development on water quality and fisheries as a consultant and an instructor at Duke Marine Lab and North Carolina State University’s Center for Marine Sciences and Technology lab.

Jess will talk about the state of the river then, now and where we might go with regard to the river’s health. Bring your questions! Jess will be happy to answer them!

RSVP using the form below, and we’ll send you the link to the virtual Zoom meeting.
