Action Alert: State Budget Should Reduce Pollution Not Concentrate It

Representative Jimmy Dixon recently proposed an amendment to the budget that diverts money from a cost share program that has been successfully working for years to reduce pollution on farms throughout the state. Rep. Dixon’s amendment was passed and is now included in the budget. This section funnels some of that funding ($450K) from the cost share program into a handout for industrial sized swine facilities in eastern North Carolina to develop biogas infrastructure that concentrates and exacerbates pollution risks.

Your legislators need to hear from you! Send a letter today urging they remove the Swine Biogas Section 10.9 from HB 966, 2019 Appropriations Act and keep the Agricultural Cost Share Program for Nonpoint Source Pollution Control working, rather than robbing that money to fund increased risks to our water resources.
