Action Alert: Ask NC DEQ To Protect Waterways From Swine Industry Waste

The NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comments from the public on the state’s permit for industrial animal production facilities. The permit determines how the 9.5 billion gallons of waste per year from these facilities is managed, and is opened up for improvements only once every 5 years.  Our staff were present at a recent meeting to urge DEQ to implement measures to better strengthen existing regulations and protect our waters from pollution, but they need to hear from you as well. Comments from the public are due December 21st – but don’t wait, make your voice heard today!
